Energy Saving LED Bulbs

It is a fact that LED bulbs use only a fraction of the energy required for an incandescent bulb to produce the same amount of light. It is also true that a LED lamp lasts up to 25 times longer than ordinary bulbs. But is the energy required to produce an LED light plus the energy required for its operation is equal or less than the equivalent to a normal light bulb?

In a word, Yes.

A study was conducted by Carnegie Mellon University in which scientists have analyzed the energy needed for materials and parts for an LED bulb and an incandescent bulb. Then they calculated the energy required for both lights worked over 25,000 hours. It was assumed that an LED bulb lasted for 25,000 hours and that it was required 3 incandescent or fluorescent lamps to produce the same light during the 25,000 hours.

The results of this study show that the energy required for these types of bulbs is 1500 kilowatt-hours for incandescent lamps, 320 kWh to fluorescent lamps and 280 kWh to LED lamps.

These new types of lamps will become increasingly important and powerful and it can become a problem for manufacturers. How can you continue to make money if the new bulbs last 50 to 100 times more than the old ones?

The benefits of LED bulbs do not end only with the power consumption. You can create models of various colors and even lights that change color depending on the voltage across the LED.

Although the price of a good LED bulb still be high, LED lamps are gradually gaining ground within our homes as they did with special exterior lighting.
