How to Install Shutters

Nowadays, blinds and shutters serve not only to provide privacy but can also block ultraviolet rays, insulate windows and save money spent on heating.

Buying Blinds and Shutters

When deciding whether to apply shades or blinds on your windows, think not only in appearance. The blinds are more practical, provide privacy but let in some outside light. On the other hand, the shutters are less aesthetic, require use of a curtain to improve the appearance but completely block outside light.

If you want to improve insulation, there are solutions that, once implemented, can improve the insulation of the window by 30%.

Depending on the size of your window, the chosen material and decoration, you may have to send your shutters or blinds made by order.

Always be sure of its measures, especially if you have it made by order. After you are done, will not be possible to return.

Getting Started

Always use a tape for measure with numbers easy to read. Every millimeter counts when taking measurements of your windows.

Before you start measuring, you need to understand the two options: (1) assembly within which, as the name indicates, is mounted inside the window opening, and (2) an assembly that is mounted on the exterior wall above window.

Never assume that your windows are square. And do not assume that all the windows in your house have the same measures. Measure out all windows on all sides.

To take measurements for an inside mount, measure your window from left to right at the top, middle and bottom of the window. The width measurement is the smallest you made. For height, measure your window from top to bottom left, middle and right. Again the smaller measurement is that you will use for the height.

Measurements for an outdoor installation vary over what you will need for the outside of the window. Usually it uses more than 20 cm on each side of the window. So you will use the width of your window plus 40cm. For height, use the window height plus 30cm. Always remember that these measures are not mandatory. If you want a shade wider or mounted higher up on your window, then the measures are completely different.

Installation

After you have your shutters, blinds or curtains. You need to install support for them to fix. This process varies greatly depending on the model you choose.

Usually there are two fasteners, one left and one right of the window to be mounted on the wall. Make the necessary measurements and mark with a pencil the spot where you need to make holes in the wall. Now take a drill and drill holes.

Tighten the fasteners to the wall and install the rod brackets. Now just hang the curtains or blinds and see if the system up and down is working properly.
